I noticed an unusual bead or protrusion on the doll's head of a Lefever 'E' grade for sale on the Cabela's web site. I have not seen this before. Any ideas as to it's purpose?

Htimsaj,

Thats rather odd. Ive never seen it. And what makes it even stranger is, from the one photo you showed, the gun appears to be in excellent condition judging by the colors. Kinda makes me wonder whether it isnt quite what it seems to be in that one view???

I tried the link but it doesnt show me the gun...might be mobile phone browser issue.

On a side note, I have noted an uncommon number of Lefevers offered at that South Dakota location. Must have been a crack salesman up there back in the day!

I can't get the pics in the Cabelas link to open either. But from the one Photobcket image that will open, I'd guess this was someone's crazy idea of adding another sight bead much further back than the traditional mid-bead. It sure doesn't help their chances of getting their highly optimistic asking price. The irregular stippling around the bead is a nice touch! Maybe a good laser welder could repair this blasphemy.

Mid-beads seem common enough on Lefevers that they were most likely a factory option, or standard equipment on some grades.

II agree with SXS16's assessment. If you look at the photo at 150% you can clearly see where someone tried pin punching that sight in place. I also agree it would take some laser welding to fill in the mess and an engraver to rectify the damage.

Some odd sight mount or bead was the only thing I could imagine it to be as well. If only the gun could talk.

Beautiful gun minus this big mistake. Probably done way back when.... Like cutting off the barrels to open the chokes. Everyone had a hack saw in the shed and cheaper than taking it to a gun smith.
