This is photo of the G I posted in Research post. I will try to get rest of photos in a follow up. Does the muzzle look original? I thought it did, but have no prior experience with Lefevers. Thanks for your help.

John

John;
As I recall you posted the muzzle diameters as .695" Rt & .710" Lt. Have you measured the bore diameters behind the chokes & the length of the chokes. Lefever barrels were choked with a taper choke, that is there was no parallel section following the cone, the choke simply tapered all the way to the muzzle. A full choke often was about 4" long from where the taper bagan to the muzzle.
"IF" the bores on this gun are at the nominal size for a 12 gauge then it would have .019" & .034" constrictions. These constrictions are somewhat Normal for Lefever modified & full chokes. From what I have seen so far I am leaning strongly toward these barrels being original. While the 26" length was near as common as 28" or 30" they were cataloged as available, all one had to do was place the order.

Miller,

I do not have the means to measure bores, but will get a local smith to help. The choke measurements were from a slip-in choke gauge not a precise instrument. I will have them checked too and report back.

Thanks,

John

John, I can't see clearly in the photo. Is the keel below the top rib an integral piece of the top rib. If so, that is a sure sign that the muzzle is original, meaning barrels are not cut. If not, barrels still may not be cut. Other factors
mentioned then have to be considered. We recently did an article on this in the LACA newsletter. Well worth the $35 per year to subscribe.
