I have a shotgun that belongs to my father in law. It's in fair condition, given it's age (no idea how old it is). It has ducks leaving a pond engraved on both sides of the gun. In addition, it has two triggers. I don't see any chokes in this gun either. The right barrel has the following inscription "LEFEVER NITRO SPECIAL". The left barrel has the following inscription "LEVER ARMS CO. ITHACA. NY". As you know, it's a side by side and when I broke the gun down, I found a serial number of 1912xx and a another engraving that just shows 20. I also see additional engravings that match the serial number, one of which starts with an S and then reads 1912xx. As I mentioned, the gun is in fair condition.

Questions..

1.) Any idea how old this s/s is, given the serial number?
2.) Is this a 20 guage shotgun, a .410 or what?
3.) Is this worth more than a couple of hundred bucks?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Your shotgun was made in 1925. The bore size of a 20 ga is about .610(just over 1/2 inch) .A .410 is an actual caliber (just under 1/2 inch).
Both gauges COULD command more that a couple of hundred bucks. A .410 would bring much more ,depending on condition. Hope this helps

Look & see if there is a single digit number from 0-4 stamped under each bbl. Ithaca guns of this era used a numerical choke marking.
0 = cylinder
1 = Imp cyl
2 = modified
3 = imp modified
4 = full.
Ithaca built the Nitro Special & I think they used the same system.
