New to me Lefever...What I know - 16 gauge G Grade built on 20 frame. Weighs 5 lbs 14oz approximately, lots of colour on receiver, 28" barrels that have great bores and ring like church bells, tons of pattern, locks up tight, 14" LOP, DAC 1 5/8", DAH 2 5/8", chamber 2 9/16", Not sure of chokes...have yet to measure them. Apparently all original according to the previous owner. Sorry for poor picture quality!

WilliamGuest. Great find and in marvelous condition you just have to love that vivid case hardening of these lower grade Lefever's! What serial # range as I also have a #43xxx #'ed 16g in similar condition w/ 14 x 11/2 x 21/2 d.
And my gun weigh's 6#4oz it also has beautiful 28" Damascus barrels w/ lots of pattern remaining. It is choked Imp Cyl. & Full, Let us know what the chokes are as in past forum discussions I've read of a common thread that these Light 16g guns were many times often choked this way? I have many times appreciated this choke configuration when in the field. Twice while woodcock hunting, once when the dog flushed one out into a pipe line when I missed the first shot and then realizing after it got about 35yds down the line that I had the full choke, took the shot and down he went! And another time after pushing thru some great cover & standing at the edge of an open field deciding our next plan of attack the dog flushed the TimberDoodle well out 40yds by the time I gained my composure & shot, I was quite elated as the bird tumbled into the tall grass! Finally on another hunt this past season I was alone and had previously flushed 1st a woodcock then a grouse in heavy cover and having marked both birds across a swamp regrouped and trudged after them. I had been walking along the lower edge of the swamp w/no luck and decided to go up the draw to the upper edge of the bowl & the edge of an open field, well after reaching the top & standing @ the edge wonder where these brds could be-of course out busts the TimberDoodle diving down the slope into the saplings there, a quick snap shot brought no result & disappointed snapped the gun open to reload then looked around before proceeding well sure enough with one step to move on, damned if the grouse didn't flush well out into the open field? This time hitting the back triggers to give the flighty bird an Ale Ope so to speak I was pleasantly surprised when the bird tumbled from the sky only a couple of feet above the brush! Maybe just maybe the old timers ( this gun left the shop in1902) has something there with this configuration of chokes (& gauge) I for one think so?
Wink

Congratulations on a great find! That gun is really light> My G grade 16 weighs 6 lb 4 oz like Lefties. Unfortunately, mine is choked F/F, so its not a great grouse gun--usually use spreaders in both barrels. I had the damascus redone on mine, as there was no pattern left.
Hey Lefty, how is the summer going, you are probably knee deep in a stream with a fly rod as I type. I've been hitting those tennis courts 4 days/ week, but think I'll go after those smallies in Buffalo Creek tomorrow.

My only 16ga Lefever is an H grade with 28" twist bbls, both full choke. It is built on the XX marked frame but still weighs in @ 6 3/4 lbs so not particularly light weight.
I actually have a 28" twist bbl'd H in 12 ga which does not have the XX frame but @ 6½ lbs is ¼ lighter than this 16.

Quite a nice gun, and more modern dimensions than sometimes found. Enjoy it!
